What is the “Baal Aadhaar card” and why does it not require biometric details? All you need to know


New Delhi | Jagran Business Office: The Aadhaar card is one of the most important documents that an Indian citizen has. The 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) serves as proof of identity and address nationwide. Anyone living in India, regardless of age, must have an Aadhaar card. However, the UIDAI has changed the process for obtaining a “Baal Aadhaar card”.

What is the Baal Aadhaar card?

A Baal Aadhar is a blue-colored variant of the Aadhaar card, issued to children under the age of five. Under the new process, no biometric details such as fingerprints and eye scans are required for children under five. Once the Kid turns five, a mandatory biometric update is required.

Required documents

Documents that can be used as proof of identity such as passport, PAN card, voter card, driver’s license, NREGS work card, etc.

The documents that can serve as proof of address are the passport, bank statement / passbook, postal account statement, ration card, etc.

Steps to register the Baal Aadhaar card for your children:

Step 1: Go to the official UIDAI website – uidai.gov.in

Step 2: Now on the website homepage, select the option to register Aadhar card

Step 3: Now fill in the required details, such as the child’s name and other biometric information

Step 4: Now enter demographic details like residential address, city, state and submit

Step 5: Click on the “Appointment” option to schedule the Aadhar card registration

Step 6: Click on the “Appointment” option and select the nearest registration center, schedule your appointment and visit the center on the scheduled date. Always remember to keep supporting documents such as Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA), Proof of Relationship (PoR) and Date of Birth (DoB) documents

REMARK: If the child is over five, biometric data will be taken, and if the child is under five, no biometric data will be required.

Once the process is complete, parents will receive an acknowledgment number that will help them follow the process of their application.
