Around 780,000 tachograph driver card holders will be able to use the new Request, renew or replace a tachograph driver card service from DVLA.
While drivers can still choose to complete a paper application and mail it in, online service is faster and easier for drivers. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; and drivers should have their new tachograph card issued within 24 hours of request, compared to 10 days or more when posting their paper requests.
Drivers using the online service need a valid UK driving license with photo. After having applied, they will receive an e-mail notification confirming their application and can choose to be informed of its progress by SMS.
The new online service for driver tachograph cards follows the successful launch of DVLA’s corporate tachograph card service in 2019, which saw corporate card applications go online for the first time.
DVLA Executive Director Julie Lennard said:
We are delighted to launch our new online driver tachograph service.
This fast and easy-to-use service will give drivers who need tachograph cards more flexibility as to how, when and where they transact with us, and they will get their new card back even faster.
The online driver’s digital tachograph card application service can be accessed via GOV.UK
Notes to Editors:
The new online tachograph card services are the first digital services from DVLA to fully switch to the new secure cloud-based system from DVLA. This paves the way for improvements that will allow greater flexibility in how future services are delivered and supported, giving customers more choices in how and when to deal with DVLA.
