Illinois health officials announced that the IDPH’s ‘Vax Verify’ vaccination portal now includes the SMART health card, which allows users to download a QR code that will allow them to confirm their vaccination status. in companies and places that require it.

The system will allow all residents aged 18 and over to check their COVID-19 vaccination records, state officials said.

“It’s just about streamlining processes, so people can quickly show information about their immunization status,” said IDPH director Dr Ngozi Ezike.

QR codes can be downloaded or stored in Apple Wallet or can be retrieved using an app through the Google Play Store, according to a state press release.

While the state has not issued a warrant requiring proof of indoor vaccination, Chicago and the suburb of Cook County have done so, requiring guests at specific facilities to prove they are vaccinated against COVID-19.

“It is not a state mandate. We support localities and jurisdictions that use this as a way to keep our communities open, ”said Ezike.

SMART cards are currently in use in California and New York, and the app will allow residents to view their immunization records in the Illinois Integrated Automated Immunization Registry Exchange (I-CARE) system.

Illinois residents can access “Vax Verify” on the state’s IDPH portal. Businesses will need to download the Commons Project’s SMART Health Card Verifier app to read codes and verify immunization cards.

“Companies don’t have to enter any information to use it, so we can’t track anything,” said JP Pollak, founder of the Commons Project. “No one’s personal health information is sent to the cloud or anything like that. So it’s a safe, secure and privacy-preserving way to check them very quickly and easily at the door.

Pollak says the company is working to get the most recent information on the app quickly, including when someone receives a booster injection. He also says companies are embracing the system and implementing it for easy access.

“I think we are seeing a recovery, and I hope it will continue, because it is definitely the best, but also the easiest way for people to demonstrate their status,” he said.
