Google Wallet app fails to add Mastercard on Wear OS watches

Google Wallet is a payment system that acts as a virtual wallet and allows its users to make payments and transfer money directly from their mobile devices.

Users can add certain amount of money to their wallet and spend it on various online and offline platforms. It is available on iOS, Android and Wear OS.

Google Wallet users can’t add Mastercard on Wear OS watches

According to multiple reports, many Google Wallet users are unable to add Mastercard on Wear OS watches through the app on their phones (1,2,3,4,5).

To add a credit or debit card through the watch, users must do so on the Google Wallet mobile app. Once the app is opened, a user needs to fill in the details of the card and then the card will be added to their Google wallet.

But in Mastercard’s case, even after completing all the steps to add a card, users get a message saying “Something went wrong” and “Try again in a few minutes.”

This problem is really frustrating because users can add credit or debit card to their Google Wallet from all other providers like Visa and American Express without any problem.

Yes, there seems to be a problem with Mastercard credit or debit cards.
A few weeks ago all my cards were added to Google Wallet in mi Samsung Watch4: VISA, Mastercard and American Express, but I had to reset my watch and when I tried to add them all, only Mastercards fail . I have them all in my phone, but in the watch, all except the MASTERCARD ones.

I have the same problem. My card is working on my Samsung phone Google wallet and but I can’t add the card to Samsung watch 4.. It says “something went wrong, try again in a few minutes” it’s been 3 days now…

While some suggest that a recent update fixed this issue for them (1,2) others say they are still facing this issue even after the latest update.

Hi Xander, I’m on build 2.150.469330213 – Updated 22nd Aug 2022 (in Ireland). Can you let us know what version we’re supposed to be on? I still haven’t been able to add maps to my Galaxy Watch5 Pro since this morning. I’ve even tried completely removing a card from my wallet (on the phone) and adding it into the watch as others have suggested, but to no avail. It was a Visa Debit card as many were reporting issues with MasterCard.

Recognized issue

It turns out that Google is aware of this issue caused by Mastercard not “tokenizing” and is currently investigating it. However, there is no time frame for when it will be fixed.

Potential Workaround

In the meantime, there is a potential workaround which is to re-enable the Google Pay app on your watch and then try adding the card again.

You need to re-enable the Google Pay app on your watch and add the card with to work around the issue.

If the aforementioned workaround helped fix the Google Wallet issue, let us know in the comments below.
