JThe deadline is fast approaching for hundreds of thousands of Americans to get much-needed help with their gas and travel budgets as inflation continues to rise.
Eligible Chicago, Illinois residents can apply for the $150 fund, but must do so by the deadline.
This cash opportunity is part of the Chicago Moves program that was proposed by Mayor Lori Lightfoot and approved by the Chicago City Council on April 27.
How to Apply for July Gas Cards
To apply, you must be a Chicago resident, at least 18 years old, and have a current, valid city sticker with the correct mailing information for your vehicle.
In addition to these restrictions, applicants’ income must be at or below 100% of the Chicago area median income. That works out to $93,200 for a household of four.
Every month until September, a lottery will take place, always the second week of the month. The deadline to apply for the next lottery is July 1. The lucky winners will be informed of the good news by e-mail.
Overall, Chicago is expected to issue up to 50,000 $150,000 prepaid gas cards. On top of that, there will also be 100,000 prepaid transit cards worth $50 under the program.
A lottery will be held to give away the $12.5 million in transit and gas cards. There are three ways to apply for the lottery: online at Chicago.gov/ChicagoMoves, in person at any Chicago Public Library location, or by mail by mailing the completed application to: ATTN: Dept. . of Finance: Chicago Moves, 121 N. Lasalle St., Floor 7, Chicago, IL 60602.
The deadlines for the gas card lottery application will be May 3, June 3, July 3, August 3 and September 3.
