Among low-rate cards, Discover it® cash back works quite well for those who qualify with its introductory APR of 0% for 15 months on eligible purchases and balance transfers. Thereafter, a standard variable rate of 14.24% – 25.24% applies. Balance transfer fees of up to 5% of the transferred amount apply. While not the most impressive, Discover it® Cash Back earns rewards of 5% cash back on daily purchases at various locations each quarter up to a quarterly maximum of $1,500 in spend when it is activated. Plus, automatically earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases. Additionally, Discover will automatically match any cash back rewards earned at the end of the first year as a cardholder. There are no minimum spend or maximum rewards.

DCU Visa® Platinum Credit Card* vs. USAA® Rate Advantage Visa Platinum® Card*
Similar to the DCU Visa Platinum, the USAA® Rate Advantage Visa Platinum® Card*, does not charge annual fees, foreign transaction fees and does not earn rewards. But unlike the DCU Visa Platinum, the USAA Rate Advantage card charges 3% on balance transfers and cash advances; $200 max.
The card also offers an introductory APR of 0% for 15 months on balance transfers, followed by an ongoing variable APR of 7.65% to 24.65% on purchases and balance transfers. A balance transfer fee of 3% of the amount of each balance transfer applies. What gives the USAA Rate Advantage card an advantage over the DCU card is a series of benefits like extended warranty protection, car rental coverage, travel accident insurance, cancellation insurance and Trip Interruption and Baggage Delay and Reimbursement Coverage.
DCU Visa® Platinum Credit Card* vs. Bank of America® Custom Cash Rewards Credit Card for Students*
The personalized Bank of America® Cash Rewards credit card for students* offers an introductory APR of 0% for 18 billing cycles on purchases and balance transfers, after which a variable APR of 16.24% – 26.24% applies. Balance transfer must be completed within 60 days of account opening. A balance transfer fee of $10 or 3% of each transaction amount, whichever is greater, applies.
The card also earns 3% cash back rewards in the choice category and 2% automatic cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs. Cash back is limited to $2,500 in the 3% and 2% categories combined each quarter. Earn unlimited 1% on all other purchases. Compared to the DCU Visa Platinum, the Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards Credit Card for Students simply has more to offer those looking for a card with low fees.
