Looks like the Rosevillians will have to wait even longer than expected for their own Chick-fil-A paradise.
On Friday, the Atlanta, Georgia-based company sought to downplay reports of the opening of its second Macomb County store. A spokesperson said they hoped to be in Roseville “soon”, but could not confirm the information.
“We are always evaluating potential new locations in hopes of serving excellent cuisine to existing and new customers with outstanding service,” Chick-fil-A Inc. said in a statement.
Chick-fil-A Completes Purchase of Macomb Mall Property, City Officials Say
“While we hope to serve the Roseville community soon, we currently have no locations to confirm.”
The Southern fast service chain’s comments were in response to the Macomb Daily reporting that the company had recently completed a purchase of property on the Macomb Mall land, according to city officials.
The newspaper’s report was based on City Manager Scott Atkins’ confirmation that City Hall had obtained “verification that (Chick-fil-A) purchased the property. They own it.”
City of Roseville officials first learned of Chick-fil-A’s interest in owning the mall in 2018. The company had an approved site plan in 2019, then little news was heard from the head office in the following three years.
Chick-fil-A had “real estate issues” with the landlord that took a few years to unravel, Atkins said. He said the purchased property is across from the mall, immediately north of the existing Red Robin.
Atkins noted that the restaurant will have high visibility on Gratiot Avenue.
“It’s a good place for them,” he said.
Known for its fried chicken sandwiches, waffle potato fries, delicious milkshakes and rabid customer response, Chick-fil-A is the largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in the United States, based on annual sales nationwide from more than 2,000 locations in 46 United States and Washington, DC, according to its website.
The company statement went on to say that Chick-fil-A is excited about the impending opening of three new restaurants in southeast Michigan this fall. Locations are expected to open in Livonia, Monroe and Southfield.
Chick-fil-A opened Southeast Michigan’s first stand-alone store in the Hall Road Crossing Mall on Hall Road, east of Schoenherr Road, in Shelby Township in 2021.
Meanwhile, workers at the Shelby Township location say they are continually trying to improve traffic demand from the restaurant inside the mall parking lot.
Additional directional signs are expected to be delivered this week which they hope will provide a clearer path for traffic. Since the opening of the establishment, customers have flooded the parking lot while waiting for their orders. Management has several employees working outside to take and deliver orders in an effort to expedite the process.
The Shelby Township location was forced to close for a few days earlier this month due to the county’s boil water advisory. It reopened on August 19 with a limited menu, but is now back at full strength, according to a social media post.
