Bombay: Maharashtra Tourism and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray launched the Chalo mobile app and Chalo smart cards to facilitate digital and advance purchase of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus tickets ). It also launched BEST’s NCMC compliant smart card as well as new passenger fares, one offering 10 rides at Rs 70 and the other called “Flexifare”.
CHALO smart cards were made available from January 1, 2022. Passengers can purchase this card to load the amount into the wallet or purchase a pass.
The Chalo mobile app will allow passengers to purchase bus tickets online and gain access to bus passes through an electronic wallet. A contract worth Rs 85 crore has been awarded for the maintenance of the Chalo mobile application for six years.
According to the company, Chalo is a free app that allows passengers to live track their bus and tells them what time the bus will reach the desired stop. In addition, traveling with a mobile bus subscription is more convenient than paying in cash.
Making bus travel effortless and convenient, the smart card will allow BEST passengers to top up, purchase and renew bus tickets and BEST passes, respectively, through an electronic wallet. Passengers can also get details like real-time tracking of buses, their congestion, as well as the estimated time of arrival.
