Get ready for some juicy reality TV drama! The real Tyra Banks is nowhere to be found in Netflix's new doc, 'Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model.' Former judge and friend, Jay Manuel, has some strong opinions about the show's portrayal of Tyra.
Manuel, along with fellow judges Nigel Barker and Miss J Alexander, appeared in the doc, reflecting on the show's complex legacy. But here's where it gets controversial... Manuel claims that the Tyra we see on screen is not the real deal. He knows her struggles and her battles in the industry, and he believes the doc missed the mark.
In a recent interview with Sherri Shepherd, Manuel opened up about his strained relationship with Tyra. It all started when he tried to leave the show in 2007, and Tyra's response was an email saying, 'I am disappointed.' Their off-camera communication came to a halt, and Manuel felt completely shut out by Tyra. He shared, 'That really hurts, even to this day.'
When asked about their fallout in the documentary, Tyra dodged the question, suggesting Manuel give her a call. But Manuel hasn't received that call, and he's not holding his breath.
Tyra teased a potential cycle 25 of 'ANTM,' but when asked if they'd return, Manuel was skeptical. He said, 'If we're going to be real, I don't think I'm getting that phone call.' Miss J Alexander's iconic stare said it all.
And this is the part most people miss... Miss J Alexander, who is recovering from a stroke, revealed that Tyra didn't visit him in the hospital. He shared that Tyra sent a text saying she wanted to visit, but it never happened.
As for Nigel Barker, he takes a more philosophical approach. He believes in remembering the good, the bad, and the ugly, and being kind to everyone.
So, what do you think? Is Tyra's on-screen persona a far cry from the real deal? And will we ever see these judges reunite on 'ANTM'? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
