The Ultimate Golf Experience: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Get ready for an exciting journey through the world of golf! With the NFL season behind us and baseball spring training in full swing, it's time to shift our focus to the PGA TOUR and its iconic venues.
Imagine emerging from the cold winter months, dreaming of sunny afternoons at Wrigley Field or romantic evenings at Fenway Park. Well, the PGA TOUR offers just that and more! And what better place to start than the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links?
A Tournament Like No Other
The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is not your average golf tournament. It's a unique event that brings together 80 golfers and their amateur partners for a memorable experience. Unlike traditional tournaments, there's no cut to worry about, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
Last Year's Impact
Last year's edition of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was a game-changer for two of the sport's biggest talents: Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. For Scheffler, it marked a triumphant return after a minor kitchen mishap, continuing his streak of PGA TOUR Player of the Year Awards. McIlroy, on the other hand, ignited a global winning streak, completing the career Grand Slam at the Masters. Both are back this year, ready to add to their legacies.
A Historic Backdrop
The Monterey Peninsula provides the perfect setting for this reunion. Pebble Beach, with its rich history and breathtaking beauty, serves as a reminder of the achievements these golfers have made since their last visit. It's a momentous occasion, and they have another chance to leave their mark.
The Tournament Format
The 85th edition of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will be a two-stage event. For the first two rounds, golfers will play one round each on Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill Golf Course, paired with an amateur. The final two rounds will be exclusively on Pebble Beach.
Course Updates
Both courses have consistently ranked as the shortest par 72s on the PGA TOUR since 2015-16. However, recent changes may alter this. The par-5 14th hole on Spyglass Hill has been extended to 590 yards, increasing its overall length. Additionally, the green on the par-3 15th hole has been redesigned and enlarged. Pebble Beach has also seen an upgrade, with a new tee on the par-5 sixth hole, adding 17 yards to its length.
Putting Surfaces
The greens at Pebble Beach remain the smallest on average, measuring 3,500 square feet. Spyglass Hill's targets are slightly larger at 5,000 square feet, but still smaller than the PGA TOUR average. All putting surfaces are prepared to offer a challenging 12-foot Stimpmeter reading, but Mother Nature has the final say.
Weather and Course Conditions
The first two rounds are expected to be played in cool, dry conditions. As the week progresses, wind may pick up, especially on Friday, hinting at the challenges to come. Saturday could bring rain, with temperatures steady in the upper 50s. Sunday's finale might be a wet and windy affair, testing the golfers' skills and club selection.
A True Test of Golf
Pebble Beach is known for its short drives, but when the weather turns wet, precision becomes crucial. The primary rough, allowed to grow to 3 inches, will be a challenge to navigate. It's a true test of a golfer's ability to adapt and make strategic decisions.
