Katima Mulilo Town Council Resumes Town Planning Operations After Fire Disruption
After a challenging period marked by a devastating fire, the Katima Mulilo Town Council has successfully resumed its town planning services. The fire, which occurred on October 24th, caused significant damage to the council's registry and town planning offices, necessitating a temporary relocation.
The council's spokesperson, Chrispin Muyoba, announced the resumption of services from a new temporary location at the Wooden Bridge premises in a public notice issued on Friday. This move was crucial to restoring essential services while ongoing recovery efforts continue at the damaged site.
Muyoba expressed the council's relief, stating, 'The fire significantly affected our former town planning offices, compelling us to suspend services temporarily.' He assured residents that full operations would now continue from the Wooden Bridge premises, emphasizing the council's commitment to serving the community.
The resumption of services marks a significant step forward for the council, allowing residents to access vital town planning functions once again. These functions include building plan submissions, peg identification, land-use consultations, and general planning inquiries.
However, the October fire has sparked controversy and public concern. During a community meeting, Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa made a bold claim, suggesting that the blaze might have been an inside job, intentionally set to destroy key evidence. This statement has ignited debate in the town, although no official investigation results have been announced.
Despite the tension, the council remains focused on stability and service delivery. Muyoba assured residents, 'Our commitment to efficient service delivery has not changed. We will continue working to ensure residents receive uninterrupted assistance during this relocation period.'
