Get ready for some off-season fun! Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, the dynamic duo of the Indiana Fever, are at it again, proving their playful bond extends far beyond the basketball court. This time, their antics have surfaced on Instagram, showcasing a hilarious exchange from a viral moment in 2025.
It was January 7, 2026, and the anticipation for the upcoming WNBA season was already building. Even though both Clark and Cunningham were sidelined for the entire 2025 postseason, the Indiana Fever still managed to come within a game of the WNBA Finals.
Their close friendship, along with Lexie Hull, forming the iconic trio known as "Tres Leches", was a major storyline throughout the season. One memorable moment involved Cunningham's post-game interview after a mid-season win. She hilariously stumbled over her words, repeatedly saying "Fresh of breath air" instead of "breath of fresh air." Clark, never one to miss an opportunity, playfully poked fun at her teammate, continuing their lighthearted banter on social media.
Cunningham recently shared a year-end photo on social media, reflecting on her first year in Indiana, both on and off the court. The post included the now-famous video of her interview after a game against the Washington Mystics, where she scored an impressive 21 points. Clark, quick to respond, shared the video on her own story, sparking comments from other Fever players. The official Indiana Fever account even chimed in with a playful nod to Cunningham's slip-up.
But here's where it gets interesting... Cunningham, currently a free agent, had a solid season in 2025, averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1 steal. Unfortunately, her season was cut short in August due to a torn right MCL. Before her injury, she was a key player off the bench, acquired in a multi-team trade with the Phoenix Mercury. She was known for providing offensive support and fiercely defending Clark, notably in an incident against the Connecticut Sun.
And this is the part most people miss... Cunningham has hinted at a possible return to the Fever. During a podcast with Real Housewives star Meredith Marks in late December, Cunningham mentioned the unique and enjoyable atmosphere of Fever games, suggesting a potential comeback. She also discussed her free agency status on another podcast with Caleb Pressley, mentioning the potential challenges posed by the lockout in her off-season decisions.
"I am not with any [team] right now, no one is with anybody," she explained. "So, I'm part of the new CBA, and I'm waiting to see who I'm gonna be with. So it could be with the Fever, it might not be with the Fever."
With Clark returning healthy and ready to dominate, the Fever are poised to be title contenders once again in 2025.
