Amazon pledges to hire 100,000 U.S. military veterans and spouses by 2024

SEATTLE – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced plans to hire more than 100,000 U.S. military veterans and spouses by 2024. Amazon currently employs more than 40,000 military veterans and spouses at multiple companies, from operations to Alexa to sustainability and Amazon Web Services (AWS) – and they all get a starting salary of at least $ 15 an hour and have access to full benefits.

“Amazon is focused on recruiting and developing military talent with training programs specifically designed to help veterans advance to roles in the private sector,” said John Quintas, director of global military affairs at Amazon. “We value the unique skills and experience of the military community, and our new hiring commitment will expand the impact the military currently has on every company in the company. ”

The company expects that through this commitment, it will hire more than 16,000 military wives.

Eric Eversole, vice president of the American Chamber of Commerce, praised Amazon’s goal. Eversole runs Hiring Our Heroes, a United States Chamber of Commerce Foundation program to help veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment in communities across America.

Development opportunities

Amazon offers a variety of programs to help transitioning military personnel and military spouses find rewarding careers. This includes access to company-funded professional training in high-demand areas, such as cloud computing, through initiatives such as Amazon’s Tech Learning Program and AWS re / Start.

Military personnel working at Amazon can also take advantage of the company’s free development opportunities to learn new technical skills and access in-demand, higher-paying jobs. These programs include Career Choice, Amazon’s prepaid tuition program for fulfillment center employees looking for high-demand positions, and Amazon Technical Academy, a nine-month paid training course that gives non-technical Amazon employees essential skills – and thrive in – software engineering careers.
