Amazon India launches Karigar Mela in partnership with Tribes India
Before the end of the year celebrations, Amazon India today announced the launch of Karigar Mela in partnership with Tribes India. As part of this initiative, Arjun Munda, Minister of Tribal Affairs in the Indian government, launched the Karigar Mela showcase.
As part of this initiative, customers will be able to access and purchase from a selection of over 1.2 lakh of unique traditional Indian and local traditional crafts and looms.
Some of the unique art forms that will be available in the products offered for purchase as part of Karigar Mela include Bidri, Dhokra, Ikkat, Patachitra, Blue Art Pottery, etc. As part of the Karigar Mela initiative, Karigar sellers will also benefit from a 100% Amazon Selling Fee Waiver (SoA) for 2 weeks from August 30, 2021 to September 12, 2021.
“The community of artisans and tribal weavers is at the heart of the Indian economy. It is also one of the segments hardest hit by the ongoing pandemic. The launch of Karigar Mela will play an important role in helping artisans and weavers revive their livelihoods and accelerate their growth in these difficult times. I also appreciate the long term partnership of TRIFED and Amazon to empower artisans and weavers across India and help increase the visibility of local products by putting offerings front and center. Such initiatives will help strengthen the feeling of “voice for the local” among Indian consumers and strengthen the Prime Minister’s vision of being an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, “Munda said.
“To help generate online demand for the products of artisans and weavers while supporting them with working capital as they seek to recover from the recent disruptions, we launched the ‘Karigar Mela’ storefront. As the holiday season approaches, we believe such initiatives will empower indigenous artisans, weavers and tribal artisans and help the rich heritage of Indian arts and crafts flourish, ”said Amit Agarwal, Global Senior Vice President and Country Head, Amazon India. “We will continue to work with government and non-government organizations to enable Indian artisans and weavers across the country to accelerate their growth through e-commerce,” Agarwal added.
“TRIFED and Tribes India are a family of 5 lakh tribal master craftsmen who produce a rich volume of artisan and hand-woven products in India. Our partnership with Amazon under the signed MoU has enabled us to offer Made in India tribal products to customers across the country and around the world. With Amazon introducing the Karigar Mela initiative towards relaunching this segment, sellers of tribal craftsmen will benefit from a dedicated store as it will draw customers’ attention to their unique and differentiated products while providing them with a multitude of relaxations and advantages of online sales. said Pravir Krishna, Managing Director, TRIFED, Government of India.
