Diskeeper 2007 Pro Premier

By Bart Koslow

Diskeeper is a program that automatically defragments your hard drive partitions, in the background, without interfering with the operations of other programs on your computer.

After I installed Diskeeper 2007 (DK7) and rebooted, I immediately noticed a large increase in the time it took my computer to boot. Instead of one minute and forty-five seconds it now took over five minutes. Diskeeper 10, the prior version, did not cause any increase in my computer’s boot time. After contacting Diskeeper, I obtained a brand new update which corrected the problem.

Diskeeper has new and improved features. Defragmentation is now completely automatic with no scheduling required. You may exclude certain times when automatic defragmentation is not permitted. You may still do a manual defragmentation. The number of steps required to execute a task has been reduced. Intelligent File Access Acceleration Sequencing Technology (I-FAAST) is included in Diskeeper Enterprise Server, Diskeeper Server and Diskeeper Pro Premier. DK7 claims that I-FAAST improves file access and creation by up to 80% (average 10%-20%). What is I-FAAST? DK7 monitors volumes for file access frequency to determine which files are requested most often, and defragments these files first and most often. I-FAAST 2.0 been improved to provide advanced online directory consolidation and improved boot optimization. You may select specific files to be included in I-FAAST processing.

DK7, once my computer booted, has done the job for me. Whenever I analyze a partition, invariably it is not fragmented. I did have another problem using Diskeeper. When I tried to analyze my J: partition, I received a message saying that either the user or the system has scheduled CheckDisk to run on the next bootup. Until it is run Diskeeper cannot work on this partition. Previously, I did have to run CHKDSK on each of my partitions, and it corrected problems that existed. I even ran it again after I received the message from Diskeeper. CheckDisk is NOT running at boot up anymore, but I still have this problem with Diskeeper. I was not able to defragment my J: drive auatomatically or manually using Diskeeper, but I was able to successfully defragment my J: partition using other software.

Diskeeper has worked well for me in the past. Most of us will appreciate having a utility that automatically defragments all your hard disk partitions Most of us will appreciate having a utility that automatically defragments all your hard disk partitions. I recommend this improved version to all users.
