DVD Copy2 Platinum

By Bart Koslow

You can use DVD Copy2 Platinum to copy DVD files from a disc or your hard drive to multiple output formats. You cannot copy protected files. Intervideo indicates that they do not advocate or support copying protected files. If you wish to make a backup copy of a movie DVD you own, you will have to download a free third party ripper. DVD Copy2 will do most everything else.

A typical movie file is recorded on a two-layer disk that holds up to 9.4GB, more than the 4.7GB  size of most present recordable DVD media. Once the files are on your hard drive it will compress the files onto one 4.7 GB disk or copy them onto two disks. Output formats include DVD (MPEG-2), VCD (MPEG-1), SVCD (MPEG-2) and DivX (AVI), and may be recorded onto CDs, DVDs or your hard drive.

After starting the program, I recommend you read the tutorial and help files, and then inspect the program. Select the file source on your hard drive and the destination source. Once you have a DVD file on your hard drive, you have three choices – Entire Disc, Main Movie or Customize. Entire disc copies all the files. Main Movie copies the main movie and menus only. If you select customize you will see the files available to copy. One thing that could be improved in the program is the file display. Instead of showing the files under separate headings like Menu, Main Movie, and Extras, files are displayed sequentially with no distinction as to type. There is a preview feature that allows you to play each file to find out which file is which and to decide which to copy. Just uncheck the ones you do not wish to copy. Drop down boxes give you choices of Audio Source, Video Source, and Subtitle selection if you select Main Movie or Customize. Before you proceed, there are some items you may customize. Among selections is one to fit the DVD output to one disc. Once completed, all you do is press the burn icon and DVD Copy2 does the rest.

This is a simple program to use. Even a beginner can quickly master it. I recommend it.
