History of the TOPCC

Here's a few items the TOPCC has accomplished in the last 5-10 years:

  • TOPCC obtained California Non-Profit Corporation and IRS 501(3)(c) status. Our Club by-laws were updated and modified in the process.
  • TOPCC became a member of the Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG) and our Club's representatives attend the annual January conference in conjunction with Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas each year.
  • We established an Internet domain name and e-mail address.
  • We have maintained an excellent relationship with the Recreations and Parks (Goebel Center) and Library departments for free use of their meeting facilities. Many User Groups are forced to pay substantial meeting room costs each month.
  • We have supported the Telecommunity Center with instructors and technical volunteers.
  • We have supported Microsoft with volunteers for their local events.
  • Our Club Treasury has maintained an excellent working level and has started to grow.
  • We have raised over $2,000 for our "Projector Fund" to purchase our own club projector.

Here's a few prior "What's New" entries:

It will include updated versions of software on our previous CD, along with some more programs. 12/24/01 - Computer Jokes - I expanded the Articles section by adding some jokes and renaming it "Articles/Jokes". If you have a favorite computer joke, e-mail me and I'll add it. I know the articles on there are pretty old, but some people may get a kick out of reading how it was like to buy a computer in the '90s.

12/10/01 - Software Review Program - Bart Koslow has volunteered to be the Software Review Coordinator. For more information, you can e-mail him at reviewtopcc.org. I've added a link to some information in the "Quick Links" section at the top of this page.

4/28/01 - Digital Photography SIG - The first meeting of the Digital Photography SIG was held today.

3/11/01 - Office 2000 Premium Raffle - When Microsoft was at our meeting in February, they brought a copy of Office 2000 Premium with them. For the next three months, we'll be selling raffle tickets for $5 (to members only!) Office 2000 Premium will be given away at the May meeting.

3/11/01 - Cash Door Prizes - Starting in April, members will have a chance to win a cash door prize. We're going to try this for a few months to see how it works.

1/11/01 - I've posted some pictures of our Holiday Family Night. The meeting was a great success! (Warning - this page may take a while to load if you are using a modem to dial in.)

11/24/00 - APCUG First Edition CD - Table of Contents in PDF format (2 pages) or Table of Contents in HTML format (viewable in your browser).

11/18/00 - APCUG First Edition CD - I spent a few hours looking at this CD and compiled a table of contents of all the programs. The TOPCC is selling these CDs for only $3. Many other user groups charge $5. If you would like to buy one, come to one of our meetings.

8/13/00 - Projector Fund Status - As of August 8, the Projector Fund was up to $1,600.00. For more information, see our new Projector Fund page.

7/23/00 - A Short History of the Internet - I came across a handout that we had at one of our meetings and turned it into a web page. It's an interesting article and has the history of the Internet up to 1995. It's on our Articles/Jokes page.

10/99 - Rate Our Website - Tell us what you think of our website by filling out the on-line survey form.

7/99 - Survey Results - The results of the survey are in! There were 22 people that responded to the survey. The results will help us tailor the meetings to better serve you. Here are the results:

7/99 - Survey - At our July 22 meeting, we will be handing out a survey. We want to know what topics you'd like covered at our meetings and we'd like your feedback. If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, you can view and print out the survey yourself.

10/98 - Donations Accepted: Now that TOPCC is a non-profit organization, you can donate things to the club and get a tax break. The club is in desperate need of projector. The one we are currently using is rented from the Simi user's group. It's blurry and hard to read. If anyone would like to donate one, that would be great! Otherwise, let us know if you know of a good, inexpensive source.

9/98 - We are now officially topcc.org! You can type http://topcc.org to get to our web site.

  • Membership Application - Check the Dues page.
  • Technical Questionnaire to print out - Check the Tech Help page.
  • Map to Meeting Locations - Check the Meetings page.
  • Calendar - Because of problems with different browsers, the Meeting Calendar is now on a separate page. It can be accessed from the Meetings page.
