History of the TOPCC

The Thousand Oaks Personal Computer Club started in the late 1980s (November 9th, 1987 or earlier.)

  • TOPCC became a Tax Exempt Association on June 31st, 1997.
  • TOPCC obtained California Non-Profit Corporation and IRS 501(3)(c) status on January 5th, 1998. Our Club by-laws were updated and modified in the process.
  • TOPCC became a member of the Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG) and our Club's representatives attended the annual January conference in conjunction with Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas each year.
  • We established an Internet domain name and e-mail address in September, 1998.
  • We have maintained an excellent relationship with the Recreations and Parks (Goebel Center) and Library departments for free use of their meeting facilities. Many User Groups are forced to pay substantial meeting room costs each month.
  • We have supported the Telecommunity Center with instructors and technical volunteers.
  • We have supported Microsoft with volunteers for their local events.

Past activities:

  • Family Night 2000 - Our first Family Night / Pot Luck for the December meeting. The meeting was a great success!
  • April 2001 - Starting in April, members will have a chance to win a cash door prize. We're going to try this for a few months to see how it works.
  • May 2001 - Office 2000 Premium was raffled off.
  • 4/28/2001 - The first Digital Photography SIG meeting was held today.
  • 12/10/2001 - Bart started the Software Review Program.
  • November 2002 - This is the first year we made our "Favorite Utilities" CD.
  • 1/11/2003 - We raffled off a copy of Office XP.
  • 2/27/2003 - We now have Internet access at the Goebel Center, thanks to Steve and Gordon.
